The Playas!

The first incarnation of ONYX began with Lee Davis on vocals. Carl Huxley on the drums. Patrick Toler on guitar. Daniel Storer on bass. And Darryl Storer on keyboards.
I have lost track of all the photos that had us playing our first show. What a night. I think I threw up before we went on. The best thing to come out of that evening was Doug Couch, who was playing guitar with a different band that night. He joined us very shortly and became a long time fixture in ONYX.
Lee left the band and Darryl traded in his keyboard for a mic-stand, and took over the lead vocal duties.
ONYX played a couple of years with that line-up until we parted ways with Darryl and Doug. We were not sure what we were going to do at that point.
Doug was one of a kind and we gave up trying to find another Doug...We had tryouts with a few singers, but the chemistry was not there, and we knew we had yet to find our singer, so the search continued.
We were good freinds of the members of another local group called Straightaway. That bands playing days were coming to a close and their drummer wanted to try his hand at lead vocals.
We knew Clark Mote well. Clark was a strong christian, and a good guy. We enthusiastically welcomed Clark into ONYX.
The final line-up was complete. Carl Huxley, Daniel Storer,Patrick Toler, and Clark Mote.
The end of an era.
